Story Time: It was around 2007 and I was a Broadcast Journalism major at Oral Roberts University. A friend was telling me about a new form of media that was slowly gaining popularity. He was an early adopter of this medium and showed me the mike and set-up he had for his podcast.
“Kerrick, you should start a podcast. You’ll do great,” he encouraged.
As I headed back to my dorm, I thought about it, but left it there. Fast forward seven years, I’m pastoring Faith Christian Center. When I became pastor, it was still in the age where many churches and ministries recorded messages on cds and made them available in the bookstore.
“Let’s stop selling CDs,” I instructed. “Let’s give away the messages via podcast.”
Not too long after that, a young man wanted to meet with me about a decision he was planning to make in his life. I am really good with faces, however I didn’t recognize him. I don’t think I had met him before.
He shared with me how the last several messages had impacted his life. He quoted message after message and shared what it meant to him. He then shared that he attended church via podcast. That’s how he connected to the ministry. Every time he went to the gym, he would play the messages we had made available on The Faith Podcast.
I had finally acted on a seed planted in 2007 and it began producing immediate results. You have to start somewhere. What seed did God place in your heart that you haven’t acted on it yet? It is my hope in the next several blogs to encourage you to step out and act on the seed in your heart. There are so many small moments in my past that set me up for what I’m doing now and opened the door for what is right around the corner. It’s time for you to act on the seed. You have to start somewhere.
Kerrick
